Thousands of Muslims converged at the Independence Square on Wednesday, May 27, to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice.
The national gathering was marked by communal prayers, reflections on the importance of sacrifice and unity, as well as renewed appeals for peace, tolerance and national cohesion.
Addressing the congregation during the celebrations, President John Dramani Mahama said Eid al-Adha should remind Ghanaians of the enduring values of sacrifice, compassion, unity and service to humanity.
He urged citizens to embrace the spirit of togetherness and continue working collectively towards peace and national development.
Speaking before Muslim worshippers, traditional authorities, government officials and members of the diplomatic corps, he called on Ghanaians to embrace the spiritual lessons of Eid-ul-Adha by promoting peace, tolerance and national unity.
He said Eid-ul-Adha is not only about the ritual sacrifice of animals, but also about the deeper moral and spiritual values it represents, values that should shape how people live and relate to one another every day.
The President said Ghana’s progress cannot thrive in an environment marked by hatred, division and discrimination, and urged citizens to put the national interest ahead of personal, political or partisan agendas.
