‘You Have Become a Symbol of Unity’ — Savannah NPP Rallies Behind Paul Afoko

The atmosphere at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional secretariat in Damongo was filled with excitement and renewed optimism as national chairman hopeful Paul Afoko met with regional executives, members of the Council of Elders and party patrons during a consultative visit to the Savannah Region.

What started as a routine political engagement soon turned into a strong call for reconciliation, unity and a renewed commitment to returning the NPP to power in 2028.

Party executives described Mr Afoko’s decision to contest the national chairmanship race again as both symbolic and timely.

“You have become a symbol of unity for the NPP considering what you have gone through,” one regional executive told him during the meeting.

“Your second coming is a blessing to the party,” another party member remarked.

For many supporters gathered at the event, Mr Afoko’s political journey — from serving as NPP National Chairman between 2014 and 2015, stepping away from frontline politics and now returning with a renewed vision — reflects the party’s resilience and ability to overcome internal challenges.

That message resonated strongly throughout the engagement, with several members expressing hope that the party could move beyond past divisions and focus on rebuilding ahead of the next general election.

“I am inspired to put certain things behind me,” one regional executive said, adding that Mr Afoko’s calm approach, persistence and continued connection with grassroots supporters had helped shift attention away from old grievances toward the future of the party.

Several party members described him as a symbol of patience, resilience and loyalty, commending his steady involvement in party activities even during periods when he was away from the political limelight.

Addressing supporters at the gathering, Mr Afoko unveiled his “3R” agenda — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture — emphasising that genuine party unity must be matched with a clear and practical strategy for electoral victory.

He called on party executives and grassroots members in the Savannah Region to use the current momentum to strengthen polling station structures, improve voter data management and intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2028 general election.

“The NPP’s strength is that we absorb setbacks and return to fight smarter,” Mr Afoko stated.

“That is how we can reclaim power in 2028, and it begins with discipline in regions like Savannah,” he added.

Mr Afoko described winning back political power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028 as a key priority, stressing that rebuilding trust in party structures and ensuring that no region feels sidelined would be essential to that mission.

The event ended on a lively note, with chants of support and handshakes filling the hall as party faithful openly expressed confidence in his campaign.

The Savannah Regional engagement forms part of Mr Afoko’s broader nationwide consultation tour aimed at consolidating support ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s national chairmanship race.

Throughout the tour, his message has remained consistent — rebuilding the NPP from the grassroots through unity, discipline and collective effort.
