A 27-year-old man, Mohammed Rafiu, has been convicted by the Hohoe Circuit Court after pleading guilty to breaking into a church and stealing musical instruments in Hohoe in the Volta Region.
The Volta North Regional Police Command said the conviction followed Rafiu’s admission to the offences after his arrest on June 5, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Inspector Felix Kwao, on Tuesday, June 9, it was explained that witnesses spotted Rafiu near the Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack of items while attempting to board a vehicle.
His behaviour raised suspicion, prompting members of the public to intercept him and inspect the sack.
The search revealed an amplifier, equaliser, mixer and crossover machine, all confirmed to belong to the church.

Police have said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and taken to the Hohoe Police District, where he allegedly confessed to the offences during interrogation.
According to a police statement, the accused “was arrested and brought to the Hohoe Police District, where he admitted to the police the charges levelled against him.”
He was later arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday, June 8, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to two charges.
The court subsequently convicted and sentenced him after his plea. Police explained that he received three years for unlawful entry and four years for stealing, with both sentences ordered to run concurrently.
This means he will serve the prison terms at the same time rather than consecutively.
The Volta North Regional Police Command has since urged the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts.
It also encouraged residents to report suspected criminal activity promptly for swift action.
