The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. (Med) Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has appealed to staff to resume work following industrial action sparked by his recent suspension.
In a letter addressed to hospital staff and dated June 8, 2026, Dr. Baidoo expressed appreciation for the support and solidarity shown to him during what he described as a challenging period.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all staff of the hospital for your show of solidarity with me during this period. I am very grateful for your support,” he stated.
His appeal follows a directive by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, instructing the hospital’s Board to suspend Dr. Baidoo for two weeks.
The suspension came amid controversy surrounding the CEO’s announcement of a temporary halt in admissions for emergency cases at the facility.
In response to the suspension, doctors and nurses at KATH reportedly withdrew services to new patients in protest, disrupting operations at one of Ghana’s largest referral hospitals.
The industrial action has left hundreds of patients stranded at the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD), with many patients and their relatives struggling to access medical care.
Calling for calm, Dr. Baidoo urged staff to put the welfare of patients and the national interest first by returning to their duties while the matter is being handled by the appropriate authorities.
“I need you all to return to duty in the supreme interest of Ghanaians and our valued patients, whilst I defer the outcome and directions to the supreme wisdom of the Hon. Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), and the Board of KATH,” he wrote.
Dr. Baidoo also reaffirmed his loyalty to the government and his commitment to supporting the vision and leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
His appeal comes as efforts continue to resolve the impasse and restore full services at the hospital.
