NSMQ Star Prince Debrah Earns Computer Science Degree from MIT

Prince Debrah Jnr., who rose to national prominence as a contestant in the 2021 National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), has graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Odadeɛ Prince Debrah, a proud alumnus of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon), earned his degree from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), further cementing his reputation as one of Ghana’s outstanding young academic achievers.

Prince celebrated the milestone on May 29, 2026, during MIT’s commencement ceremony at Killian Court, where he joined fellow members of the Class of 2026 in marking the successful completion of their studies.

Prince first came into the national spotlight as a member of the PRESEC-Legon team that reached the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) final in Kumasi. The fiercely contested championship remains one of the most memorable in the competition’s history, with PRESEC narrowly missing out on the title to Prempeh College in a thrilling showdown.

Prince has distinguished himself through outstanding academic achievement throughout his educational journey.

Prince began his educational journey at The Light Academy in Adenta, where he demonstrated leadership qualities early on and served as School Prefect. His academic brilliance was evident in 2018 when he emerged as the second-best performer in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the Adenta District.

His exceptional performance in the BECE earned him admission to his first-choice senior high school, Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon). At PRESEC, he excelled both academically and in student leadership, serving as President of the Mathematics and Science Club. He also showcased his intellectual prowess on the national stage as a finalist in the 2022 Sharks Quiz competition.

Prince made headlines in 2022 after receiving admission offers from 14 prestigious universities across the United States. Following careful consideration, he chose to pursue his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost institutions for science, technology, and innovation.

Beyond his academic achievements, Prince immersed himself in campus life during his four years at MIT. He was actively involved in several student organisations, including the National Society of Black Engineers, the African Students Association, and Phi Kappa Theta, a prominent social fraternity on campus.

Prince’s graduation marks yet another milestone in an impressive academic journey, underscoring his dedication and perseverance. His achievement serves as an inspiration to young people across Ghana and beyond who aspire to excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The achievement further reflects the increasing impact of Ghanaian students in leading academic institutions around the world, driven by talent, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence.
