A tragic road accident involving a school bus has claimed the lives of two pupils of Alice Elites Academy, a preparatory school in Assin Edubiase in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
The victims, a boy and a girl, were among more than 40 schoolchildren travelling in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus when the crash occurred on the Assin Homaho road.
Confirming the incident, Central North Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), DSP Wonder Lumor, said emergency responders swiftly transported the injured pupils to nearby health facilities for treatment.
According to him, 40 children were affected by the accident. Twenty-two of the injured pupils were taken to St. Francis Xavier Hospital, while the remaining 18 received medical attention at the Assin Edubiase Health Centre.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) disclosed that all 40 injured pupils were treated at health facilities and later discharged to rejoin their families.

Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
The tragedy has left Assin Edubiase in shock, as families, community members and school officials mourn the untimely death of the two pupils.
