A 22-year-old man, identified only as Kwame, has been remanded by a court in Koforidua for allegedly robbing and raping a 25-year-old nurse undertaking her National Service.
The victim, who had rented a room in the accused persons family house a few months ago, was reportedly deceived by the accused into believing that someone was looking for her in front of the Yiadom Hwedie Palace of the New Juabenmanhene.
While she was away, Kwame quickly changed his clothes, put on a mask, and sneaked into her bedroom.
Upon her return, the accused pulled a knife on her and demanded all her money. Out of fear, the victim handed over more than GH¢1,000 in cash. Kwame is said to have further demanded a mobile money transfer, but the victim had no funds in her account.
Under knife-point threat, the accused ordered the victim to undress and forced her into a doggy-style position, after which he sexually assaulted her.
Kwame fled the house immediately after the incident and went into hiding. However, the victim, who was able to identify him despite his attempt to disguise his voice, lodged a complaint at the police station, prompting a search for the suspect.
The accused later appeared at the police station with his father to plead for forgiveness but was immediately arrested.
The traumatized victim, upon seeing him, reportedly went into shock and began jerking. Out of frustration, she allegedly slapped him multiple times.
Police obtained a medical report on the victim, after which Kwame was charged with rape, robbery, threat of death, and threat of causing harm. He has since been remanded by the Koforidua court.
