8 Fallen Heroes: ‘Non-Muslim victims of helicopter crash to be buried on August 15’ – Edudzi Tameklo

Acting CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has said that the non-Muslim victims of the unfortunate helicopter crash which claimed the lives of five officials and three military officers will be buried on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Speaking to the issue of accident that sent shockwaves through the length and breadth of the nation on August 6, on TV3’s New Day on August 11, 2025, he noted that the state will perform the final funeral rites of remaining fallen heroes on Friday August 15.

“Our fallen comrades belonging to the Muslim faith had to be buried earlier per the customs of their religion. So, the burial rites of the others belonging to Christian faith and other denominations will be done on Friday,” he said.

He eulogised the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the late Murtala Mohammed, former Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, Muniru Mohammed, and Samuel Aboagye recounting is memorable engagements he has had with them in previous weeks and months.

He seized the moment to extend his condolences to the families of all eight (8) citizens of the country who lost their lives in their line of duty.

His reaction follows the tragic helicopter accident on Wednesday, August 6, that claimed the lives of the Minister of Defence Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Environment Murtala Mohammed, former Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, Muniru Mohammed (Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator), and Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament and Vice Chairman of the NDC.

The crew members who also perished in the crash are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
