In a bold move to elevate educational standards in his constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman and Deputy Finance Minister, has announced the launch of Ampem Educamp 2025. This two-week intensive academic bootcamp, set to take place from 10 to 24 August 2025 at Akosombo International School, aims to equip over 400 of the district’s top-performing Junior High School (JHS) 2 students with the skills needed to excel in their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The initiative, detailed in a post on X , targets students from both government and private schools across the Asuogyaman constituency. The programme will offer specialised training in English, Mathematics, and Science, delivered by professional facilitators. Beyond academic enhancement, the camp will include career coaching sessions, fostering the development of future leaders.
Mr Nyarko, a former finance director with a teaching certificate from Peki Training College and prior experience at Akosombo VRA Junior Secondary School, expressed his commitment to transforming education in the region. “This effort is intended to provide our best young brains with the extra advantage they require to excel,” he stated. “We seek to mould not only excellent students but also future leaders through engaging sessions and professional guidance.”
Akosombo International School, operated by the Volta River Authority, provides a prestigious venue for the event, underscoring the collaboration between public figures and established institutions. The camp’s inclusive approach, welcoming students from diverse school backgrounds, reflects a broader vision to bridge educational inequalities highlighted by organisations like UNICEF, which note that factors such as poverty and gender disparities still hinder secondary education access in Ghana.
While the short-term impact on BECE performance is anticipated, the long-term success of Ampem Educamp 2025 will depend on sustained funding and follow-up evaluations to assess its influence on students’ academic and leadership trajectories. Residents of Asuogyaman have already voiced their support, with local voices on X praising Mr Nyarko’s dedication to the constituency’s youth.
As the event approaches, all eyes will be on this innovative programme, which could set a precedent for scalable educational reforms across the region.
