Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the late Dr Murtala Mohammed Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology as one who was incorruptible.
Sharing some memories of the late official in an interview on Channel One TV on August 11, 2025, he recounted one incident where he travelled with the late minister to meet the then leader of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi as young politicians.
According to Ablakwa, it was in line with Africas liberation and strategies to rally influential people at all levels including chiefs into buying into Gaddafis ideologies.
It was a very expensive trip. We had high hopes and were excited about it. We kept chatting about the opportunity while on the flight as young and passionate politicians.

Interestingly, when we arrived and went for the engagement, we were given a contract a life changing contract. He told me that looking at the scope and the demands, it would be too daunting a task to achieve. So, he didnt sign. This was a very juicy contract but he wouldnt get involved in something he thought he could not deliver on, Ablakwa said.
Ablakwa added that when they returned to the country, some notable chiefs and political big wigs he cannot mention on live TV went behind to engage the late Libyan leader for the contract because there was huge money involved.
Alhaji Murtala was simply incorruptible. If he cannot do something there is no pretense with him. He will walk away, regardless of how enticing an offer was, he added.
He eulogised him, stressing what a loss it was for the NDC to lose such a forthright and energetic politician as the late Murtala Mohammed.
Muammar Gaddafi was a Libyan military officer, revolutionary, politician and political theorist who ruled Libya from 1969 until his assassination by Libyan rebel forces in 2011.
