GPL 2025/26: Amoah’s deflected strike earns Kotoko point against Aduana

Defender Lord Amoah found the net through a deflected effort to save Asante Kotoko from defeat against Aduana FC in their Ghana Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Heading into matchday 10, the Porcupines were the only unbeaten side in Ghana’s top-flight, and their test could not have started any worse against the Dormaa-based side.

It took just five minutes for Aduana to open the deadlock following a rebound from forward Emmanuel Marfo after a belter from Seidu Saana.

Kotoko goalkeeper Aziz Dari, who could have done better with the direction of the parry from Saana’s shot, was in the right position in the 19th minute to tip a looping header from Mizack Afriyie and deny the visitors a second.

After a quick, intricate play, Aduana came close through Saana with a well-taken strike from distance, but it went agonisingly wide.

Marfo could have had a second on the day but skied his effort after pouncing on a loose ball following miscommunication by the Kotoko defence.

It was all Aduana until Samuel Tenadu was taken off in the 39th minute for Baba Yahaya for “creativity,” according to assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu.

The diminutive midfielder helped Kotoko claim a foothold in midfield and begin to register efforts at goal, with captain Samba O’Niel coming close to restoring parity with a drive in the 42nd minute.

Two minutes later, Kotoko levelled the score through the unlikeliest of scorers, Lord Amoah, whose belter took a deflection into the net.

The second half was an open game with end-to-end action as both sides chased the winner.

The hosts came close twice through Morifing Donzo and Hilary Adabo, but it was not enough to secure the victory.

After back-to-back draws, Kotoko, who now sixth with 16 points, will aim to rediscover their winning touch when they face Young Apostles in their outstanding fixture on November 19.

Meanwhile, Aduana, who drop to third on 20 points after victories for Medeama and Heart of Lions, return to Dormaa to host Berekum Chelsea on November 23.
