True love, understanding and forgiveness sustain my marriage - Celestine Donkor

Gospel musician Celestine Donkor has revealed that “true love, true understanding and true forgiveness” are the foundation of her sustainable marriage.

She describes the principles as essential to keeping both her family and ministry together.

Speaking in a one on one interview with Lekzy Decomic on Joy Prime’s prime time show, Celestine explained that when these three elements are practised, “I believe you can marry any guy.”

Rooting her views in her Christian faith, she said love is meant for imperfect people.

“What introduced love to us is Christ, and Christ loved us while we were still sinners. Love is supposed to be done to imperfect people, but we humans want to love perfect people, and that is the struggle.” She described love as “an antidote to imperfection.”

Celestine also praised her husband, who doubles as her manager, noting that despite the challenges, she has learned to balance marriage, family, and ministry. “I have married my family and my ministry. Everything is married,” she said.

She stressed that she does not separate her family life from her calling. “It’s really hard to separate family from ministry. I believe family is ministry, so my husband is in it, and so are my children. Everybody does their role appropriately,” she added.

Reflecting on her journey, the ‘Agbeboloo’ singer disclosed that music was not her original career plan. “The plan was to be a businesswoman or to study law, but I ended up doing music,” she said.

She further recounted a difficult moment in her marriage when she had a misunderstanding with her husband but still had to minister. “I had to pull myself together and show up for ministration despite the circumstance,” she recalled, highlighting the discipline required to sustain both marriage and ministry.
