Huge Crowds Greet Bawumia in Ashanti as He Begins Final Push for NPP Flagbearer

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stormed the Ashanti Region on Thursday to begin the last lap of his national campaign tour for the NPP’s presidential primary on January 31st.

Dr Bawumia, who is widely tipped to win the race, started a nationwide tour about three months ago, and so far, he has visited 15 regions and about 230 constituencies, with the Ashanti Region outstanding.

On his arrival in Ashanti Region Thursday morning to begin the last lap of his tour, Bawumia was giving a rousing reception at the starting point in Asante Akim South, and later in Asante Akim North, Bosome Freho and Asawase constituencies.

As has been the characteristic of his tour in regions and constituencies he has visited so far, enthusiastic party members and delegates rolled out the red carpet, offering the former Vice President a rousing welcome.

In the four constituencies he visited, party members and delegates chanted Bawumia’s name with a number of delegates – electoral area coordinators endorsing his candidature, which they said, reflected the will of polling station executives – the majority bloc of the NPP’s electoral college.

In his remarks to delegate, Dr. Bawumia stressed on his vision to revitalise the party by addressing perennial welfare concerns of party members.

He reiterated his policy of building a database welfare system for party members at all levels to address exclusion. In this regard, Dr. Bawumia revealed focal point will be created to liaise with contact points in constituencies to ensure that welfare issues captured by the system are addressed.

He also stressed on his proposed policy to spread appointments to all constituencies across the country by offering each constituency a minimum of 10 appointments while in government.

To address the issue of exclusion from national infrastructure development, Dr. Bawumia proposed that if elected Flagbearer and President, his government will introduce a constituency-based national budget, to ensure that every constituency is captured in the national budget for inclusive development.

Dr. Bawumia is expected to tour all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region in the coming days ahead of the January 31 primaries
