Three herdsmen of Fulani descent have been arrested in the Asante Akyem North Municipality for allegedly bringing cattle into the area, causing extensive damage to farmlands.
The arrests were confirmed by the Municipal Police Commander, DSP Edem Aklasu, who told Adom News that local authorities had previously warned herdsmen against moving cattle into communities due to repeated crop destruction.
“Farmers have consistently reported that stray cattle from these herdsmen are damaging crops and, in some cases, intimidating anyone who tries to stop them,” DSP Aklasu explained.
He further noted that the cattle’s movement has also led to the contamination of rivers and streams that residents rely on for drinking water and household use.
The police commander assured that law enforcement, in collaboration with local authorities, will continue efforts to protect farmers, maintain peace, and prevent further incidents in the municipality.
