Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has not terminated the services of any road contractor since returning to power in January this year.
“I think Ghanaians should take note of something: for the first time in our recent history, a government takes over and never asks contractors to stop work,” he said on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show, a day after he toured the famous Ofankor-Nsawam road project in the Greater Accra region with President John Mahama on Wednesday, September 3.
Mr Agbodza alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) dismissed all contractors working on various projects across the country when the party assumed office in 2017.

He described the action of his political opponents as unfair to indigenous firms.
“Unlike the past, in 2017, the government automatically asked all cocoa road contractors to suspend work, pending an investigation, which some of them took three years…President Mahama never asked any contractor to suspend work; he rather encouraged everybody to work, and in the same spirit, we don’t want to make life difficult for any contractor,” he stated.
He stressed that the NDC has not adopted such an approach and urged contractors and the general public to have confidence in President John Mahama’s administration.
“You saw me when I toured the 16 regions, encouraging contractors to have faith in the state, have faith in Ghana, stay on site, and work; we will pay you,” he said.
