Government’s “Big Push” Programme Focuses on Local Contractor Development – Minister Agbodza

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has stressed that the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme goes beyond building roads, highlighting its focus on developing the capacity of local contractors.

Speaking on the objectives of the initiative, Mr. Agbodza said the programme is designed not only to accelerate infrastructure delivery but also to equip Ghanaian contractors with the technical skills and experience needed to manage large-scale projects independently.

He noted that strengthening local capacity is a key part of the policy, aimed at reducing reliance on foreign firms and supporting the growth of indigenous construction companies.

“By investing in the development of local contractors, the programme seeks to create sustainable opportunities for the next generation and ensure that more value from infrastructure spending remains within the Ghanaian economy,” Mr. Agbodza added.
