The third edition of the Democracy Cup was officially launched on Tuesday at Parliament House in Accra.
For the first time, the main ceremony will be held in Kumasi on August 30, accompanied by expanded activities designed to create an even greater impact.
The launch drew parliamentarians, ambassadors, sponsors, former players, and the lively Ghana Supporters Union, adding energy and excitement to the event.

The ceremony marked the official launch of the third edition of the Democracy Cup celebrations.

Accra — Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei has called for the Democracy Cup to serve as a platform for promoting gender equity.
“As a woman in leadership, I’m particularly encouraged by the inclusive potential of this initiative. Sports, when intentionally structured, can be a powerful tool for advancing gender equity and youth empowerment. I urge that future editions actively incorporate women’s themes,” she said.
Majority Chief Whip Rockson Dafeamekpor praised the tournament’s role in connecting citizens with their leaders.
“Speaker, parliaments around the world often struggle to bridge the gap between the people and the institution. This creates a perception among citizens—especially young people—that governance is distant, complex, and inaccessible.
“The Democracy Cup is a thoughtful intervention designed to close this gap and bring parliament closer to the youth, who are the leaders of tomorrow,” he added.

Accra — Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has unveiled a series of events and preliminary matches leading up to the 2026 Democracy Cup.
Speaking on the planned build-up, he said:
“After the Under-19 National Tournament, which aims to nurture youth talent, we will hold an Executive versus Legislature match to foster institutional cohesion.
“We will also feature an all-women’s football game to promote gender inclusion in sports before the main Democracy Cup match.”
The 2026 edition of the Democracy Cup will see Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak face off at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on a date yet to be announced.
In previous editions, the Porcupine Warriors claimed victory in the inaugural tournament, while the Phobians narrowly defeated Great Olympics in the second edition.
