Egg exporters in Dormaa Ahenkro are hopeful of a quick resolution to the ongoing trade impasse with Burkina Faso following government intervention.
The Dormaa Eggs Exporters Association had earlier, at a press conference on Thursday, April 8, 2026, raised concerns over restrictions imposed by the Burkinabe authorities on egg exports from Ghana.
The group attributed the move to fears of bird flu and challenges with export documentation, and appealed to President John Mahama to step in.

Responding to the concerns, the Municipal Chief Executive for Dormaa Central, Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, assured exporters that government has engaged the Burkinabe ambassador in Accra, with positive indications that the restrictions could be lifted within two weeks.
According to him, the move would allow exports to resume and ease the growing pressure on poultry farmers and traders in the area.
He urged affected exporters to remain calm and patient while discussions continue, adding that efforts are also underway to secure better trade arrangements with Burkina Faso to support their businesses.

An Executive Member of the association, Nana Kumi Yeboaa Asuamah, who is also the Akwansra Krontihemaa and Yaakrom Krontihemaa, welcomed the MCE’s intervention and expressed appreciation for the swift response.
However, she called for urgent action from government, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and other stakeholders, stressing that the restrictions have taken a heavy toll on both poultry farmers and egg exporters.
She noted that the situation has not only affected their livelihoods but also placed emotional and personal strain on those in the business, underscoring the need for a prompt resolution.

Dormaa Central NDC Communications Officer, Eric Yeboah Kyeremeh, also assured exporters that the Ministries of Agriculture, Trade, and Foreign Affairs are working together to resolve the issue diplomatically.
He added that the Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central, John Kwame Adu Jack, is actively engaging relevant authorities to help restore smooth trade and support poultry production in Dormaa Ahenkro and surrounding communities.
