The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano North in the Ahafo Region, Pius Opoku, has cut the sod for the construction of an ultramodern police station at Susuanso as part of efforts to strengthen security in the area.
Speaking to Newsmen after the ceremony, which was attended by the Ahafo Regional Minister, representatives of the Ghana Police Service, traditional leaders, and members of the clergy, he explained that the community’s growing population has made the need for a dedicated police station more urgent.
He noted that the absence of a nearby police facility has contributed to rising security concerns, adding that the new station is expected to address those challenges and improve law enforcement presence in the area.

He noted that Newmont Gold Ghana is currently operating within the enclave, stressing the need to strengthen security to protect workers and ensure a safe environment for both employees and residents.
He added that the proposed two-storey facility is being fully funded by him with support from a few individuals, and is expected to be completed within eight months. According to him, the project will ease long-standing challenges faced by residents, who currently have to travel to Yamfo, Tanoso, or Duayaw Nkwanta to report criminal cases—delays that sometimes allow suspects to evade arrest.
Meanwhile, the Nifahene of Susuanso, Nana Kusi Agyapong, and the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, have welcomed the initiative, saying the new police station will play a key role in addressing rising crime in the area.
They explained that once completed and operational, the facility will enable quicker police response to incidents. They described the project as a welcome development and called for collective support to ensure its timely completion.
They also expressed confidence that the presence of a police station in the community will serve as a deterrent to criminal activity.
