‘World Cup is not a small thing’ — Adu Kwabena eyes Black Stars squad spot

Black Stars forward Prince Adu Kwabena says earning a place in Ghana’s FIFA World Cup squad would rank among the biggest achievements of his career, as he continues to push for selection.

The 22-year-old, who received his first national team call-up during friendly matches against Japan and South Korea in November 2025, featured in both recent warm-up games against Austria and Germany.

Kwabena has enjoyed a strong season at Viktoria Plzeň, scoring eight goals across all competitions.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with JoySports, he said representing Ghana at the World Cup would be a dream come true.

“It would be a great opportunity for me, and I would be very excited,” he said. “The World Cup is not a small stage—many players never get the chance to play there. It would be one of the biggest moments of my career.”

He added that his immediate focus remains on maintaining his club form and continuing to work hard in hopes of making the final squad.

Kwabena was handed his maiden call-up by former head coach Otto Addo, who will not lead the team at the tournament following the appointment of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.

Queiroz has until June 1 to submit his final squad for the expanded 48-team competition.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
