Residents of Aworowa in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region are reeling after a shocking incident involving a 42-year-old cocoa farmer, Kofi Assum, who reportedly mutilated himself in what is believed to be an attempted suicide.

According to local accounts, Assum—who also works as a basket weaver—allegedly used a sharp object to inflict severe injuries on himself. He was later found lying in a pool of blood.

Quick action by residents helped save his life, as they rushed him to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment. His condition has not yet been made public.

The incident has left the community deeply unsettled, sparking renewed conversations around mental health and the urgent need for awareness, early intervention, and support systems.
