Mother of Newborn Triplets in Twifo Appeals for Urgent Help as Babies Are Hospitalised at Praso

A young mother from Twifo Kyekyewere in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District is appealing for urgent help after her newborn triplets were admitted to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital amid worsening health concerns linked to extreme hardship.

Olivia Assumang, who gave birth about six weeks ago, says she has been unable to provide even the most basic needs for her babies. Without a steady source of income, she struggles to afford essentials such as diapers, infant formula and clothing.

She believes the family’s difficult living conditions contributed to the babies falling ill, a concern doctors have also raised, noting the children were not receiving adequate care at home.

Speaking through tears, Ms. Assumang revealed that about two weeks ago, the weight of her situation pushed her to the brink.

She said she briefly considered taking her own life along with her children’s.

“I thought of poisoning myself and the babies, but someone stopped me,” she recounted. “It was the hardship talking, not me.”

She added that her own poor health and malnutrition have made it impossible for her to breastfeed the triplets, further complicating their care.

At times, she said, the pressure becomes overwhelming, leaving her with thoughts of running away, though she insists she has not acted on them.

The children’s father, Noah Awudzor, is also battling illness and is currently bedridden, making it impossible for him to work or support the family. “There is no money in the house. I’m too sick to go out or do any job,” he said.

The couple already has two other children, bringing the number of dependents to five. With no income and rising medical expenses, the family says it is sinking deeper into crisis.

In a desperate appeal, Mr. Awudzor is calling on government officials, including the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. T.D. Vondee, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Yawson, as well as NGOs and well-meaning individuals, to come to their aid.

The family is seeking immediate support in the form of food, medical care, infant supplies and financial assistance to help stabilise the condition of the triplets and give them a chance at survival.
