The Municipal Chief Executive for Jaman South, Hon. Siata Watara, has announced plans to roll out targeted measures within the next 10 days to ensure the Municipal Assembly elects a Presiding Member to support its daily operations.
Her comments follow the Assembly’s failure to elect a Presiding Member during voting held on Friday, April 17, 2026. Expressing concern over the outcome, she said she remains committed to engaging candidates, assembly members, and government appointees eligible to vote in order to build consensus ahead of a fresh attempt.

Hon. Watara also appealed to residents to play a role by engaging their respective assembly members and urging them to put aside personal interests in the interest of the municipality.

Assemblyman for Kofitiakrom, Hon. Frank Tanor, underscored the importance of the Presiding Member’s role, noting that the Assembly’s effectiveness depends heavily on strong leadership and access to funding.
He explained that electing a Presiding Member is critical to securing approval for District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) funds and attracting donor support needed to run the Assembly efficiently. He added that internal consultations are underway to ensure a successful election within the stated timeframe.

Meanwhile, Hon. George Appiah Nyame, Assemblyman for the Dodosuo electoral area, described the deadlock as largely political. He called on members to unite and reach a consensus on a competent candidate who can help move the Assembly forward.
