Former Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa is set to join Carlos Queiroz’s technical team as assistant coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to South African publication Kickoff, De Sa—who has previously worked alongside Queiroz—has completed negotiations with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and agreed personal terms.
While the full details of the contract have not been disclosed, his deal is expected to run concurrently with Queiroz’s four-month agreement with the GFA.
De Sa confirmed his imminent arrival in Ghana, telling Kickoff:
“I will fly out on Thursday to Accra to start working straight away.”
He noted that the appointment came together quickly following the departure of the previous coach, adding that discussions progressed within a matter of days.
De Sa has served as Queiroz’s assistant in several roles, including during Egypt’s run to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final and at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Iran.
Despite welcoming the opportunity, the experienced coach admitted the job comes with significant challenges, particularly given the limited preparation time.
“I’ve been watching a lot of footage, different players at different clubs,” he said. “The biggest challenge is selecting a team without enough time, and the preparations are also very short. You’ve got about two weeks to prepare your team.”
He added that such pressures are part of international football management.
“It’s not easy, it’s going to be difficult, but they’re all difficult anyway,” he said.
It remains unclear whether De Sa will be officially presented alongside Queiroz during his unveiling scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
