CHPS compound projects will boost Ghana’s path to universal healthcare – Health Director

The Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr Daniel Konka, has commended the NDC government led by President John Dramani Mahama for its ongoing construction of CHPS compounds across the country to improve healthcare delivery.

Speaking during an inspection of the CHPS compound project at Besease in the Dormaa Central Municipality, alongside the Bono Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Konka said the initiative aligns with the World Health Organization’s target of achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030 under Sustainable Development Goal 3.8.

According to him, expanding health infrastructure through CHPS compounds will help the Ghana Health Service move closer to that goal by improving access to healthcare, particularly in underserved communities.

Mr Konka also praised the quality and design of the Besease facility, especially the inclusion of accommodation for nurses, which he said would motivate health workers and improve service delivery.

He assured residents that arrangements had already been made to deploy staff to the facility, adding that nurses would begin work within 24 hours after the official handover of the project.

“As Director of Health Services in the municipality, we are fully prepared to staff the facility immediately it is handed over so the people of Besease and surrounding communities can start benefiting from the services,” he indicated.

Mr Konka further appealed to the Bono Regional Minister, Lawyer Joseph Addae Akwaboah, to support the construction of a new office complex for the Dormaa Central Health Directorate.

He explained that the current directorate building is in a poor condition and poses operational challenges, particularly during both the rainy and dry seasons.

Meanwhile, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive, Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, disclosed that the CHPS compound is located close to the Kosane M/A Junior High School.

He said the school would be relocated to the nearby Kosane M/A Primary School to create a more suitable environment for healthcare delivery.

According to the MCE, the existing Junior High School classroom blocks will be renovated and converted into wards to accommodate patients who may require inpatient care.
