I’m not impressed with Otto Addo’s performance as Black Stars coach – Sports Minister

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced frustration over the output of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, warning that Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign remains on shaky ground.

Ghana’s recent form has left many unimpressed. The national side was forced to settle for a 1-1 stalemate against Chad on Friday, September 5, before edging Mali with a narrow 1-0 victory three days later.

Despite the win, Mr Adams argued that the Black Stars’ play lacked conviction and consistency, with little to suggest significant progress.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Wednesday, September 10, the Sports Minister pointed out that Ghana risks missing out on major tournaments if the technical team does not raise its standards.

“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV. We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to say comfortably that no one can overtake us,” he cautioned.

Mr Adams further stressed that the coach’s performance could not be described as satisfactory under the circumstances.

“If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is still much room for improvement. Even the coach admits he has made mistakes and takes responsibility. But for how long will he continue to take blame for poor decisions?” he queried.
