Police in the Northern Region have arrested a 33-year-old suspected drug dealer during an anti-drug operation at Zujung in the Tamale Metropolis, leading to the seizure of large quantities of Tramadol and other controlled substances.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Manan, was arrested on Friday as part of an ongoing crackdown on the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, the operation was carried out following intelligence gathered on the suspect’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities.
The operation, led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, targeted the Zujung suburb of Tamale at about 3:15 p.m., where officers moved in and arrested the suspect, who is believed to have been operating from an over-the-counter chemical shop.
Police said a search conducted at both the suspect’s shop and residence uncovered several exhibits, including 32 boxes of 50mg Tramadol and one box of 250mg Tramadol.
Officers also retrieved one sachet of 120mg Royal Tramadol, one sachet of 100mg Tramadol, nine boxes of 32mg Astradol-P, and 24 bottles of Koffex.
According to the statement, the suspect and all retrieved items have since been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit to support further investigations and possible prosecution.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting investigations, while efforts are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and identify other persons connected to the illicit trade,” the statement noted.
Police say the operation forms part of broader efforts to dismantle drug networks operating within the Tamale Metropolis and surrounding communities as authorities intensify the fight against illegal drug distribution in the region.
