Joy Prime TV to broadcast FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Ghana

The Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) will broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026 live on radio and television starting Thursday, June 11, 2026, after joining Ghana’s official broadcast consortium for the tournament.

Under the arrangement, selected matches will air live on Joy Prime, one of the authorised television partners licensed to show the competition in Ghana.

The development follows an announcement by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which confirmed it has secured exclusive terrestrial free-to-air rights for the tournament with government support.

GBC said the arrangement is aimed at ensuring that all Ghanaians can access the world’s biggest football tournament and follow the Black Stars’ progress throughout the competition.

It also announced the formation of a National Broadcast Consortium, designed to share technical, marketing and production resources to maximise nationwide coverage.

Joy Prime and Adom TV, both under The Multimedia Group, are among several stations licensed through FIFA’s rights holders New World TV and GBC. Other partners in the consortium include GTV, GTV Sports+, GHOne TV, Agoo TV, Metro TV, Original TV, TV3, Onua TV, Max TV, Sporty TV, WoezorTV and UTV.

JoySports, the sports division of MGL’s English platforms, says it will deliver extensive coverage throughout the tournament, including in-depth analysis, expert commentary and storytelling across all match days.

A dedicated JoySports team will also be stationed in the United States, Mexico and Canada to provide on-the-ground reporting from the host nations.

The coverage will feature analysis from former players, coaches and respected pundits, offering tactical breakdowns and discussions before and after key matches.

According to the match schedule shared with Joy Prime, the tournament will open on June 11 with co-host Mexico facing South Africa at 19:00 GMT.

The fixture revives memories of the 2010 World Cup opener in South Africa, where Mexico held the hosts to a draw in the tournament’s historic African edition.

Another early highlight will see the United States take on Paraguay in a highly anticipated group-stage clash.

Special coverage will be dedicated to African teams, with analysis and feature segments focusing on their performances throughout the tournament.

Key fixtures involving African sides include Brazil vs Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire vs Ecuador, Spain vs Cape Verde, and France vs Senegal — a repeat of their famous 2002 World Cup encounter.

Ghana’s group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia are also expected to draw significant local interest.

Joy Prime’s programming will combine live match broadcasts with studio discussions tailored for both dedicated football fans and casual viewers. Selected matches will also be replayed to ensure audiences do not miss key moments.

On radio, JoySports will provide live commentary with detailed descriptions designed to bring the action to listeners nationwide.

Meanwhile, GBC has warned against unauthorised broadcasting of World Cup content in Ghana, stressing that strict enforcement measures will be applied.

“Any unauthorised broadcast, re-broadcast, streaming, public exhibition, or commercial distribution of World Cup content within Ghana is strictly prohibited,” the statement cautioned.

It added that the Ghana TV Consortium will actively monitor traditional and digital platforms throughout the tournament, with offenders facing legal and regulatory sanctions.

GBC described the FIFA World Cup 2026 as the world’s most-watched sporting event and a major opportunity for brands to connect with audiences across Ghana.

The Corporation and the consortium also expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana and all stakeholders for their support in securing nationwide access to the tournament.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada, with global audiences expected to follow one of the biggest sporting events in history.
