MTN Ghana Reduces Fibre Broadband Prices Significantly Following Talks With Government

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced a major reduction in MTN Ghana’s fibre broadband prices, describing the move as part of efforts to make internet services more affordable and accessible.

In a post on social media on Wednesday, the Minister said sustained engagements between government and MTN Ghana had led to significant cuts in the cost of unlimited fibre broadband packages.

He disclosed that customers who previously paid GH¢987 for a one-month unlimited 100 Mbps package will now pay GH¢299 for the same service.

“Effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed,” Mr George wrote.

Under the new pricing structure, a 300 Mbps unlimited package will now cost GH¢444 per month, while the 500 Mbps package has been set at GH¢999.

According to him, the adjustment follows growing public demand for more affordable, stable and reliable internet services.

“You demanded. We engaged. MTN Ghana has responded,” he stated.

Mr George also expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana’s management and staff for responding positively to concerns raised by both consumers and government.

“I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he said.

He added that the Ministry will continue engaging telecom operators to improve service quality and reduce costs for consumers.

“From the Ministry, we will continue to push for better service packages for the Ghanaian people,” he noted.

The development is expected to be welcomed by households, businesses, content creators and remote workers who rely heavily on high-speed internet, amid rising demand for more affordable broadband services.

MTN Ghana is yet to issue a detailed statement on the revised packages, but the announcement marks one of the most notable broadband price reductions in Ghana’s telecom sector in recent years.
