NADMO Rallies Public Support as Flood Damage Assessment Begins Across Affected Communities

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has begun assessing flood-affected communities across the country as it prepares to distribute relief items to people impacted by the recent heavy rains.

The Director for Man-Made Disasters at NADMO, Maxwell Emmanuel Niber, said assessment teams have been deployed through the organisation’s zonal and district offices to document the extent of the damage and identify victims who require immediate assistance.

“Our zonal and district offices have been tasked to carry out assessments in the affected communities,” he said. “The reports will be submitted to the headquarters to guide the distribution of relief items to those affected.”

Mr Niber added that NADMO is working to ensure support reaches all victims and welcomed the immediate interventions announced by President John Dramani Mahama to help ease the hardship facing affected communities.

Despite these efforts, he acknowledged that available resources are inadequate to meet the growing needs of flood victims and appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to support the relief exercise with donations.

“We have received support from some individuals, but considering the number of people affected and the level of distress they are experiencing, it is not enough,” he said. “While NADMO continues to do its part, we encourage the public to come on board and support the response efforts.”

He said donations in cash or kind would strengthen ongoing relief operations and help ensure that no affected household is left without assistance.

Mr Niber urged members of the public to contribute essential items, including non-perishable food, potable water, medications, mattresses, school bags and books, saying every contribution, no matter how small, would make a meaningful difference to families recovering from the disaster.
