Ablakwa discloses the top 4 items on late Dr Omane Boamah’s wish list

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed what would have been the top four things on the wish list of the late Minister of Defense, Dr Edward Omane Boamah.

Sharing fond memories of the late official in an interview on Channel One TV on August 11, 2025, he listed four things he believes would comfort the late Omane Boamah after his untimely demise.

According to him, the forthright politician was big on four things that he would wish could come to pass to usher him into peaceful rest.

Describing Dr Omane Boamah as a studious and compassionate politician who was result-oriented, Ablakwa recalled a statement that Dr Omane Boamah used to say that still resonates with him.

“As we grief over his demise I recall one statement he said to me recently that ‘let us not grief but organise’. He will want us to pick up the pieces to move forward and achieve results.

“To that effect, there are four things I believe he would wish, we did to remember him,” Ablakwa said.

Below are four things Ablakwa believes will pacify the souls of the departed in the horrific helicopter crash on August 6, particularly Dr Omane Boamah.

He was a resolute and compassionate person who was poised to end illegal mining

“The late patriots including Dr Omane Boamah were on a mission to launch a project for community mining in a way that is safe to empower indigens. The initiative was intended to safeguard the environment and curb the devastating nature of the unbridle illegal small-scale mining. What we can do to honour his memory is to continue and win this fight against galamsey,” Ablakwa said.

He wanted politics to be scientific data driven

“He was not a person who did politics grounded in emotions but a strategist who based all his actions on data and research. He wanted politics to be empirical; a strategy that helped to win power for the NDC in 2024 elections. Let’s take a cue from him to shift from the politics of insults and unwarranted attacks to politics that uplifts a nation,” he added.

He would want us to groom and uplift youth in our politics

“Omane Boamah is known for lending a helping hand to young politicians keen on developing themselves to serve the country. When I decided to contest for my seat, he didn’t speak the language of my people but he followed me to the Volta Region and guided me through it all when even some closest compatriots did not believe in me. In the same way, he would want us to help the youth to achieve their dreams,” Ablakwa said.

He was writing two books; one on the late President Atta Mills and the other on life in politic

“Dr Omane Boamah has two manuscripts he was working on before he passed on. One was on the late President Prof John Evans Atta Mills which is at the review stage and the other on his life in politics; which is nearly 80% complete. I believe he would be happy if we will come together to publish these works to preserve his memory,” Ablakwa stated.
