Abu Trica Extradition Advances as Court Rejects Entrapment and Political Persecution Claims

The Gbese District Court has dismissed major defence arguments in the high-profile extradition case of Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, ruling that claims of political persecution and entrapment lack merit.

In a ruling that could significantly advance proceedings, the court found no evidence to support the defence’s assertion that the prosecution was politically motivated or that Abu Trica had been lured into committing offences through entrapment. This effectively removes key legal hurdles that had previously stalled the extradition request.

The court has allowed the extradition process to move forward, though it granted Abu Trica a 15-day window to challenge the decision. His legal team may file an appeal or request a review within this period. If no successful challenge is made, the case is expected to proceed to the next stage of extradition proceedings.

The case has attracted widespread attention due to its alleged links to international fraud. Authorities in the requesting country are seeking extradition to prosecute offences reportedly connected to online scams targeting victims abroad.

Abu Trica has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyers are reviewing the ruling to determine the next legal steps. Any appeal could prove decisive in whether he will ultimately be extradited to face trial overseas.
