The Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) has reminded practitioners that it is the only statutory body mandated to regulate the training and practice of Allied Health Professionals in Ghana, including the recognition and protection of their professional titles.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, August 28, the Council said its mandate is clearly stated under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857). It noted that no other institution or body has the legal authority to prohibit or restrict practitioners from using titles they have duly earned.
“For this reason, Allied Health Professionals are hereby advised to disregard any directive, pronouncement, or publication from any institution or body that seeks to undermine or prohibit the use of professional doctoral titles duly earned without recourse to the Council,” the AHPC said.
The Council further stated that practitioners who have successfully completed AHPC-accredited professional doctoral programmes “remain fully entitled to the recognition and use of their professional titles.”
Calling on professionals to carry their qualifications with pride, the statement added that, “We call on all Allied Health Professionals to continue to uphold their titles with dignity and pride, and to remain focused on delivering the highest standard of care to the public.”
The AHPC assured that it remains committed to defending the rights and professional identity of Allied Health workers.
“The Council assures all professionals that it will continue to safeguard your rights, protect your professional identity and engage stakeholders constructively in matters affecting Allied Health Professions in Ghana,” the statement said.
