The release comes on the back of a standout run for Black Sherif following his sophomore album Iron Boy, which earned widespread acclaim for its raw lyricism, genre-blending production, and deeply personal storytelling.

The project further cemented his status as one of Africa’s most compelling musical voices while significantly expanding his global audience. It enjoyed impressive chart success, reaching No. 6 on the Spotify UK Top Albums chart, No. 10 on the Billboard World Albums chart, and No. 5 on the Nigerian Top 100 albums chart. It also made history as the first Ghanaian album to record over 2 million streams on its first day of release.

Building on that momentum, the 24-year-old embarked on the Iron Boy Tour, selling out venues across North America and Europe in record time. His performances took him to major cities including Washington DC, Boston, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Amsterdam, Paris, and Birmingham, among others. A major highlight of the tour was his back-to-back sold-out shows at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.

The tour concluded in Ghana with his annual homecoming event, the Zaama Disco Concert, which drew an estimated 30,000 fans to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, underscoring his growing influence at home and abroad.

Speaking about his new single Pop Star, Black Sherif said the track reflects a personal journey back to his roots.

“With Pop Star, I’m reclaiming the artist and entertainer I always wanted to be before moving to the city, which at the time pushed me to become who I needed to be,” he explained.

Since breaking onto the global scene with Second Sermon featuring Burna Boy and his breakout hit Kwaku The Traveller, Black Sherif has built a reputation for music that resonates far beyond Ghana’s borders. His sound blends drill, highlife, hip-hop, and Afrobeats into a style that is distinctly his own.

With Pop Star, he continues to evolve creatively while staying true to the authenticity that defines his artistry. The single also signals what could be a defining year for the Ghanaian star, with more music releases, international performances, and creative projects expected throughout 2026.
