Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has issued an appeal to his supporters nationwide, urging them to avoid personal attacks and divisive language as the party prepares for its internal leadership contest.
Speaking after submitting his nomination forms at the NPP headquarters, Dr Acheampong expressed deep gratitude to his supporters, some of whom had travelled long distances to show their backing.
In a tone both appreciative and cautionary, he reminded his followers that the unity and reputation of the NPP must remain paramount.
“My supporters from north to south, east to west must shy away from comments and commentaries that smear individuals and ultimately affect the fortunes of our party,” he said.
“I come to unite, I come to build, I come to lead with conviction, and I come to win power for the NPP.”
The Abetifi MP took time to thank those who had made considerable sacrifices to attend the event, noting that some supporters had journeyed from as far as Tumu and Wa a round trip taking up to 20 hours just to be present.
“Let me take the opportunity to thank all those who have come here to support me. I am aware that some people have driven for 20 hours from Tumu to Wa, and from Wa to Accra. I thank you.”
Dr Acheampong, who has already submitted his nomination forms to contest the NPP flagbearership, revealed that his official campaign launch is set for November.
“In November, I shall launch my campaign. It will be the NPP’s campaign a big campaign and we will fight, and we will win.”
