Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has pledged the government’s continued support to businesses by creating an enabling environment for growth to make the country succeed in its economic drive.
He called for more collaboration between businesses and the government to make Ghana not only the hub of African enterprise but also a beacon of what’s possible when policy meets innovation and determination.
Mr. Debrah pledged when he inspected the “THIS IS GHANA” exhibition at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra, organised by ChannelOne TV and Citi FM, Accra-based Television and Radio stations.
He said the government recognised the power of small- and medium-scale enterprises as the backbone of the country’s economy and, for that matter, was committed to policies that would make it easier for businesses to thrive.
“Our 24-hour economy is designed to create more opportunities, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure that Ghanaian businesses operate in an environment that matches your ambition and creativity,” he stated.
The Chief of Staff intimated, “Today, I am encouraged to see key partners such as the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana EXIM Bank, and the Ghana Enterprises Agency working together with you.
“Their presence here is not symbolic; it is a clear demonstration of our shared commitment to scale up Ghanaian enterprises, open access to finance, and prepare our businesses to compete—not just locally, but across West Africa and beyond.”
Mr. Debrah said it was about time Made-in-Ghana products take commanding spaces on supermarket shelves, in international markets, and in the homes of people everywhere.
“Our fabrics, foods, crafts, and technology solutions—all of these reflect a Ghanaian identity that is strong, unique, and world-class,” he noted.
He applauded the exhibitors, saying, “You are not just showcasing products; you are showcasing Ghana’s future. You are showing us that with persistence, quality, and innovation, Ghana can indeed rise to occupy its rightful place in the global market.”
Mr. Sylvester Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana EXIM Bank, in an interview, said SMEs accounted for 70 percent of employment in the private sector and that it was important the government provided them with some sucker that would give them the leverage to compete effectively.
He noted that exhibitions like ‘THIS IS GHANA’ provide exclusive opportunities for SMEs to offer Made-in-Ghana products to Ghanaians.
“The last time I came here, some of the exhibitors indicated clearly that one day in an exhibition was able to provide for them what they would otherwise sell over a whole year,” Mr. Mensah stated.
He added, “And I think that we owe them that duty, and I want to assure them that President Mahama’s reset agenda is to ensure that SMEs in Ghana progress.
“It is to ensure that their resilience and steadfastness yield something tangible, not for themselves alone, but in terms of foreign exchange for the country.”
The CEO assured businesses that the EXIM Bank is ready and willing to support them in their endeavours.
He expressed gratitude to ChannelOne TV and Citi FM for the leadership they have provided for organising regular exhibitions.
