The Christian Service University (CSU) in Kumasi has installed Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Kwaku Asante as its first Chancellor, marking a major milestone in the institution’s five-decade history.
The investiture, held in the Ashanti Region, reflects CSU’s renewed commitment to strengthening academic excellence and expanding its footprint in Ghana’s tertiary education landscape.
Most Rev. Prof. Asante — a distinguished theologian, academic, and former Chairman of the National Peace Council — becomes the first to assume the newly created chancellorship.
He previously served as the first professor to head the Department of Religious Studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and has played key roles in ecumenical bodies and Christian councils across West Africa.
In his acceptance speech, he pledged to uphold the values of integrity, diversity, and critical inquiry that define the university’s vision.
“We already run programmes in religious theology, nursing, business, communication, computer science, and mathematics, and these require expansion, with additional programmes to be introduced,” he told journalists after the event.
Prof. Asante revealed that CSU plans to broaden its academic offerings at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He disclosed that the university has secured land at Asabin Akrofrom to facilitate campus expansion and increase student intake.
According to him, the new phase of growth will prioritise graduate studies, stronger partnerships, and enhanced skill development to meet national and global workforce demands. He assured the university community that his role would include strategic marketing and resource mobilisation to attract institutional partners and funders.
CSU, established over 50 years ago, has trained thousands of professionals who serve in various sectors across Ghana and beyond. University officials say the appointment of a Chancellor is expected to strengthen its governance structure and position the institution for accelerated development.
Prof. Asante said CSU will continue to produce graduates grounded in Christian values and equipped to make a positive impact in society.
