Big Stuff Media Ghanan has confirmed that Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, commonly known as Daddy Lumba is dead. He died at the Bank Hospital in Accra at dawn on Saturday. He was 60 years old.
Sources close to the family have told Big Stuff Media that, he had been admitted at the hospital for an undisclosed health condition and passed Saturday morning [July 26, 2025].
As of 1pm on Saturday, many people had gathered at Daddy Lumba’s residence at East Legon in Accra.
The singer-songwriter and musician has more than 30 albums to his name and widely regarded as one of the greatest Ghanaian musicians of all time.
The family has since through a legal representative put out an official announcement to confirm the passing of Daddy Lumba.
“With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon, Charles K. Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness,” the statement signed by counsel for the family said.
“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” it added.
“During this time of immense loss, we respectfully request privacy for the family and loved ones as they navigate this profound grief. Details of funeral arrangements will be shared in the coming days,” the statement signed by Fati Ali Yallah counsel for the Fosu Family from Baba Jamal & Associates indicated.
Who was Daddy Lumba?
Daddy Lumba was born on September 29, 1964 and hailed from Nsuta near Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
He started his music career at age 16 and became the leader of the then Juaben Secondary School choir in 1983
After secondary school, Daddy Lumba formed the Lumba Brothers group with his friends Yaw and Kwabena and girlfriend, Theresa Abebrese.
With the help of his girlfriend Theresa, Daddy Lumba travelled to Germany after school to seek greener pastures and met Ernest Nana Acheampong.
Nana Acheampong, another highlife legend introduced Daddy Lumba to highlife music as all Lumba knew then was gospel music.
They formed the group called Lumba Brothers and rose to fame with many songs starting with the “Yɛɛyɛ aka akwantuo mu”.
They released many songs until they went their separate ways later on.
Daddy Lumba, went ahead as a musical legend renowned for his timeless compositions and influence on Ghanaian music.
