Eastern Regional Minister vows peace and security over Kwahu Queen Mother arrest controversy

Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has assured stakeholders of her unwavering commitment to peace and security following what she describes as a damaging twist of facts regarding the arrest of the Kwahu Queen Mother.

The Minister revealed that the Inspector-General of Police, C.O.P Christian Tetteh Yohuno, had already apologised to the chiefs, explaining that police personnel were responsible and investigations were underway.

She added that her own apology was in line with responsible leadership, not an admission of involvement.

“I accepted responsibility just as the IGP did… because the incident happened in the Eastern Region for which I am Minister,” she clarified.

Condemning attempts to politicise or distort the issue, she stressed that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) remains neutral in the dispute.

“We do not associate with any of the disputing parties,” she said.

“I therefore call on everyone to disregard the unfortunate reportage that is aimed at tarnishing my reputation and that of the Regional Security Council.”

The Minister expressed optimism that with collaboration, the region will navigate the tensions peacefully.

“Together with all other stakeholders… we shall find lasting peace as we work tirelessly to resolve these disputes. God be our helper.”
