Everton have opened talks over a deal for Jack Grealish to offer the England forward an escape route from Manchester City. Grealish, 29, will be allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium for the right deal during the summer window and is a target for David Moyes as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Grealish was left out of the matchday squad for the final day of last season and he was also absent for the Club World Cup in America over the summer. While he trained with Pep Guardiola’s squad on Tuesday at City’s open day in front of fans, he has been expected to depart before the transfer deadline.
Talks between the clubs are at an early stage, with Everton exploring a possible deal which may be a season-long loan. Grealish has been working with a personal trainer, Jamie Reynolds, in a bid to make sure he is in the best possible condition for a move this summer.
Last season Guardiola offered no guarantees Grealish would be at City for the 2025-26 campaign, with the £100m club-record signing struggling for regular games. With England looking to qualify for the World Cup next year, Grealish will need regular first-team football to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans after being dropped for the last Euros.
“I understand all the frustrations of all my players,” said Guardiola last May. “It’s so good to have a dream to play in the World Cup and the European Championship with his national team. I’d be concerned if it was otherwise.”
Guardiola only started Grealish in one Premier League game in 2025 and he was an unused substitute in the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace when City were trailing. Guardiola opted to give a debut to Claudio Echeverri, 19, rather than turn to Grealish at Wembley. That prompted Alan Shearer to claim on the The Rest is Football podcast that he should leave the Etihad.
