A police report indicated that the four are currently in custody while investigations continue. Efforts are ongoing, with support from local community members, to apprehend another suspect who remains at large.

The report also noted that earlier on the morning of the incident, community members had apprehended an additional suspect and handed them over to police to assist with the investigation.

The incident occurred on March 12, 2026. Around 6:30 pm, Chen Zchao and Christopher Opoku, Chinese nationals residing in an unmarked house at Malta, a suburb of Asankragua, reported that six armed men attacked them at a spare parts shop. Chen was accompanied by his younger brother, Yao Chan.

Following the complaint, the Asankragua Night Patrol, led by Inspector Stephen A. Bimpong with D/Inspector Henry Baiden and several other officers, quickly responded in service vehicle GP 959, driven by G/Sgt. Francis Quayson. The pursuit was coordinated with the Sumpre Police Checkpoint.

At about 8:00 pm, a black Toyota Voxy with registration number GS 756-25 approached the Sumpre checkpoint. Upon seeing police, the occupants attempted to flee on foot.

“Police personnel at the barrier, together with the Asankragua Night Patrol, pursued and successfully apprehended four suspects,” the report confirmed.
