The President of the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA), Alex Kukula, has expressed great satisfaction with the successful staging of the 2025 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF), describing it as a landmark event for the growth of basketball in the region.

The President of the GBBA praised RITE Sports Services and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for their dedication and professionalism, emphasizing the smooth organization of the event. Kukula noted that the festival has provided a significant platform for young athletes to showcase their talents. He believes that such events will attract more international attention and investment in Ghanaian basketball. Furthermore, he expressed hope that this success will inspire more grassroots initiatives to develop the sport. The feedback from participants and spectators alike has been overwhelmingly positive, marking a promising future for basketball in Ghana.

 “RITE Sports Services has established itself as a leader in the sports marketing and organization space in Ghana so expected this high-level competition and engagement”, he stated.

Kukula also highlighted the importance of community involvement in fostering a love for basketball among youth. Collaborative efforts between schools and local clubs are crucial for nurturing talent and providing opportunities. As more young players emerge, he envisions a stronger national team that can compete on the global stage. The festival’s success serves as a blueprint for future sporting events, encouraging collaboration among various stakeholders. With continued support and investment, the future of basketball in Ghana looks bright.

He congratulated the Nigerian team for their outstanding performance and competitive display throughout the tournament, noting that the quality of play reflected the rapid development of basketball across Africa.

He also praised Spintex Knights for winning the maiden edition of the Bitcoin Classics, which was hosted Accra for the first time.

Kukula expressed optimism that more tournaments like the Bitcoin Classics would inspire young athletes to pursue basketball seriously. He believes that showcasing local talent on larger platforms can attract sponsorship and resources essential for growth. Workshops and training camps could further enhance skill development and mentorship for aspiring players. Engaging former players as coaches and role models will also play a vital role in building a sustainable basketball culture in the region. The energy and passion displayed at these events could very well ignite a movement that transforms the sports landscape in Ghana and beyond.

Alex further applauded the fans whose passionate support created an exciting atmosphere and contributed significantly to the success of the festival.

He also called for sports events to be formally integrated into the “December in Ghana” activities, emphasizing that competitions like ABF can boost tourism, promote youth engagement, and strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional hub for sports and entertainment during the festive season.

He also underscored the importance of strong partnerships among sports federations, corporate sponsors, and event organizers to sustain such initiatives and expand their impact.

The GBBA President concluded by reaffirming GBBA’s commitment to supporting all basketball events and working with stakeholders to ensure that sports play a central role in Ghana’s December celebrations.
