GEXIM@10: CEO Applauds Mahama’s Vision in Establishing Exim Bank

The Chief Executive of the Ghana Export-Import Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his foresight in establishing the bank, describing it as a transformative force in Ghana’s trade and industrial development.

Speaking at the opening of the bank’s 10th anniversary international conference in Accra on Wednesday, March 25, Mr. Mensah highlighted the president’s role in founding GEXIM in 2016, noting that the institution continues to build on that original vision.

“As we celebrate ten years, I acknowledge H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama, whose vision established GEXIM,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to successive governments, past and present boards and management, staff, clients, partners, and the media for their continued support.

Mr. Mensah stressed that collaboration remains central to the bank’s mandate, describing partnerships as critical to achieving industrial transformation. “For GEXIM, partnership is not optional; it is essential. Industrial transformation cannot be delivered alone,” he noted, calling for stronger engagement with government, regulators, financial institutions, investors, and business associations.

Looking ahead, he said the bank’s future would be shaped by its ability to support businesses, scale key sectors, and open up new markets for Ghanaian enterprises.

“The next frontier for GEXIM will be defined by the enterprises we build, the sectors we scale, and the markets we help Ghanaian firms enter,” he said.

He urged stakeholders to move beyond reflection and focus on decisive action, positioning the bank as a catalyst for a shift in Ghana’s economic model. “Our work is clear: to transition Ghana from a consumption-driven, import-based economy to a production-led, export-driven growth strategy,” he added.

Mr. Mensah reaffirmed the bank’s readiness for the future, pledging a more focused, responsive, and impactful approach as it enters its next phase of growth.
