Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Acheampong, also known as Fred Achie, has lambasted persons who are criticizing the third term proposal.
The GFAs proposal to change the statutes to allow an extension of the presidential term from two to three was approved by FIFA and would be tabled for approval during the 31st Congress on August 12, 2025.
However, numerous sports personalities have kicked against the move as they believe it would allow incumbent president Kurt Okraku to run for another term.
In response to the criticisms, Fred Achie stated that the comments are unwarranted as football administrators will decide the next president through voting

At the Congress we are not going to extend Kurts third term in office but seek the approval of the proposal in the statutes. So afterwards if Kurt wants to contest then he can go ahead. Why must we think it is only negative, and cannot be positive? We think about both.
So if he stands and does not deserve another term they will vote against him, like it happened to the incumbent Senegal FA President. The proposal is to align the term with CAF and FIFA, he said in Twi while speaking on Kessben FM.
The outspoken GFA Exco Member also called for individuals who have presidential ambitions to contest Kurt when the time is due instead of bastardising the GFAs proposal.

If you are a football person, and you think you are man enough and appealing to congress members, dont be afraid to contest Kurt. If you want him to be off the scene before you do so then you dont trust in yourself. So if you are man enough contest him, Achie added.
