Ghanaian aviation and tourism journalist, Dr Dominick Andoh, has been awarded the Africa Civil Aviation Commission’s (AFCAC) AWAYA Scholarship.
This is to enable him pursue a specialised program in International Air Law at the renowned ITAérea Aeronautical Business School in Spain.
The AWAYA Scholarship, a partnership between ITAérea and AFCAC, annually provides 150 opportunities for African aviation professionals to advance their expertise in key areas of the industry.
Under the International Air Law programme, Dr. Andoh will study critical topics including liability in air transport, aircraft financing and trading, air operator licenses (including remotely piloted aircraft systems — drones), airline mergers and acquisitions, aeronautical labour law, aviation insurance, and environmental and airport regulations.
Dr. Andoh, a seasoned communications strategist and academic, brings over 13 years of professional experience in commercial aviation, public relations, and media.
He is the founder and publisher of AviationGhana, the country’s only dedicated aviation and travel media platform, which is featured on PressReader alongside global outlets such as The New York Times, The Economist, and The Washington Post.
Over the years, he has worked extensively with both international and domestic airlines, industry regulators, and tourism stakeholders, offering communications, policy insight, and media expertise that have shaped aviation and tourism conversations across West Africa.
Academically, Dr. Andoh holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Ghana, with research focused on aviation, tourism development, and destination branding, particularly in Ghana and Kenya.
His scholarly contributions explore how destination image formation influences Africa’s tourism markets.
Speaking on the scholarship, industry observers note that Dr. Andoh’s unique blend of practical industry experience and academic research positions him to make significant contributions to aviation policy and legal discourse on the continent.
Upon completion of the programme, stakeholders expect Dr. Andoh to bring back cutting-edge knowledge in air transport liability, drone regulation, airline mergers, and aviation law, which will enrich Ghana’s aviation sector and support policy reforms.
His achievement is seen not only as a personal milestone but also as a boost for Ghana’s aviation and tourism industries, as he continues to bridge the gap between industry practice, policy development, and academic research.
