GoldStars boss Frimpong Manso concerned by lack of midfield compactness in Kotoko defeat

Bibiani GoldStars head coach Frimpong Manso has voiced concern over his side’s lack of compactness in midfield during their Super Cup (Champion of Champions) defeat to Asante Kotoko.

His remarks followed GoldStars’ 1-0 loss to Kotoko on Sunday at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.

New signing Musah Hamzata netted the decisive goal from a set piece just before the 70th minute, silencing the home crowd.

Reflecting on the game, Manso said: “I think now every game that we play, or we want to play, is going to be like this—very difficult. Because at this time of the season, every team is very strong.

“You could see in this game, the first half was very physical. Both sides were not putting the ball on the turf. It was one end to the other.

“For me, in the first half, it wasn’t all that good football. But at least in the second half, in terms of possession, I think it improved to some extent. So it means we need to look at that area well.

“At the highest level, you cannot be losing possession like that, especially in midfield. Those are some of the things we have to work on going forward.”

Asante Kotoko gained revenge over GoldStars in the fixture that officially opened the new Ghana football season, following their 2-1 defeat to the league champions in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament.

Both clubs are preparing for continental campaigns, with GoldStars set to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League while Kotoko compete in the Confederation Cup.
