The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council, has lifted the curfew imposed on Walewale and its surrounding communities with immediate effect.
According to the Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the decision was informed by the demonstrated commitment of Chiefs and residents to sustain peace in the area, as well as marked improvements in the security situation.
Government has expressed its appreciation to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the people of Walewale for their cooperation and peaceful conduct. It also urged them to continue relying on dialogue and non-violent approaches in resolving disputes.
Security agencies say they will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that lasting peace is maintained.
