Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has assured the Ghana Navy that government is committed to providing the resources necessary to secure the nation’s maritime space and advance Ghana’s Blue Economy agenda.
Addressing the 11th Ghana Navy Memorial Day parade at the Western Naval Command in Sekondi, she praised the Navy’s steadfast contribution to maritime security and honoured fallen personnel whose sacrifices, she said, remain central to the nation’s safety and stability.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the significant challenges confronting the service, including the shortage of platforms and critical infrastructure, but stressed that the government is treating these concerns with urgency.
“We are aware of the constraints facing the Navy, particularly the limited platforms and other facilities. Government is actively exploring every possible avenue to strengthen capacity and will address the challenges with the urgency they deserve,” she said.
She further encouraged naval personnel to uphold professionalism and deepen cooperation with other maritime actors to safeguard Ghana’s territorial waters.
“I urge you to continue to work hard and strengthen partnerships with maritime stakeholders in order to enhance security and preserve our territorial integrity,” the Vice President added.
