The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Christ the Teacher College of Education to facilitate its absorption by the Government of Ghana as a public college of education.
The agreement was signed on Friday, October 24, at the GTEC headquarters in Accra by the Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, and the Acting Principal of Christ the Teacher College of Education, Rev. Msgr. Louis Kofi Tuffuor.
Announcing the development in a post on Facebook, GTEC confirmed that the signing formally marks the institution’s transition into a state-owned college, meaning it will now operate under the policies and guidelines that govern public colleges of education across the country.
“The college, after the signing, has now become a state-owned institution; therefore, it must follow government’s prescriptions and will also enjoy privileges such as subventions from government,” said Prof. Jinapor.
He added that GTEC would work closely with the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) to provide orientation and management training for the college’s leadership, ensuring a smooth integration into the public tertiary education system.
In his remarks, Rev. Msgr. Louis Kofi Tuffuor, the Acting Principal of Christ the Teacher College of Education, expressed profound gratitude to GTEC for facilitating the absorption process.
“We are deeply thankful to GTEC for its support and commitment to this transition. We will cooperate fully with GTEC to ensure the college operates in line with government directives,” he said.
The ceremony was witnessed by several key education officials, including the President of PRINCOF, Prof. Samuel A. Atintono; the General Secretary of PRINCOF, Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng; the PRINCOF Zonal Chair, Dr. Anthony Baabereyir; and the Director for Corporate Affairs at GTEC, Mr. Jerry Sarfo.
Other dignitaries present included Mr. Charles Mbeah, Head of Public Relations and Protocol at GTEC; Rev. Fr. Kirk Kwame Siabour, Acting Vice Principal of the College; Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul Kumah, Quality Assurance Officer; and Ms Georgina D. Ofori, a member of the College Council.
