A disturbing situation has emerged at Bulemi in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, where a family of three is reportedly living in unsafe and unhealthy conditions.

According to a report by 3news, journalist Akua Sarpomaa visited the family on March 20 and observed that they have been residing in an uncompleted building for several years.
During her visit, she discovered that the mother, Leticia Okine, has been adding human waste—both urine and faecal matter—to the food they prepare, claiming it makes the meals “healthier and tastier.”

Leticia also indicated that bottles filled with urine are kept for multiple uses, including cooking and as a body ointment. She further claimed the substance is used to “remove chemicals” from sachet water before consumption.
In addition, she revealed that the family stores faecal matter in sealed containers, which they sometimes mix with corn dough for meals such as banku, saying the containers are tightly closed to prevent any odour.
A neighbour, Ato Quansah, who also serves as Chairman of the local Landlords Association, expressed concern about the family’s condition.
He noted that they have lived in the area for a long time with the children’s father, but alleged that he left after the mother began exhibiting unusual behaviour.
Mr Quansah is now calling on relevant authorities and social services to urgently intervene and provide the family with the care and support they need.
